Chocolate and gifts
Every year the kids get a small box of their favorite chocolate and a gift. My youngest and tween still get a little stuffed animal that matches their personality and the teen gets a book or a t-shirt. Other things you can get are a small toy or something similar. It just depends on what your kids like.
Valentines Day Meal
We never go out to eat on valentine’s day. Usually because as a waitress I work that night. But on the rare instance that I get the night off, we have a special dinner at home. We pick a dinner that we all love to eat and their dad cooks it up. Some of our favorite meals are:
Steak with mashed potatoes and biscuits
Baked Tilapia and veggies
Pork roast with potatoes, carrots and onions
You don’t have to do dinner; you can do breakfast instead. Some ideas for a family valentine’s day breakfast are:
Heart-shaped pancakes or waffles
Heart-shaped eggs, toast, and fruit

Play a Valentines Game
There are a few different ideas you can try for games. Almost any game or activity can have a theme to it. Here are some ideas for games:
Word scramble
Word search
Scavenger hunt
Memory game
Tic-tac-toe
Pictionary
Most of these are easy to make on your own in Canva. Or you can buy some from my Etsy shop.
Have a movie night
Make some popcorn and put on a movie that the kids will enjoy too. There are some family valentines’ movies right on Netflix that the kids are sure to love.
Some of our favorites are:
Corpse Bride
Beauty and the Beast
Cinderella Story
Anastasia
These are just a few that you can find on there, but there are a ton more.
Talk about why you love each other
This is a great way to get kids to be comfortable talking about their feelings early. What we like to do is sit facing each other and talk about the things we love and appreciate about other members of the family. Another spin of this is to have the kids write a letter to each member of the family describing the same things. The goal is to show each other and your kids how much they mean to you.
Make Valentines cards for the family
Having everyone sit down and make cute little cards for another member of the family is a fun family valentines’ activity that you can do too. It just takes some paper and other things that you have around the house. These are some of my favorite things to get from the kids. I have a folder where I keep all the cards that they have made me through the years.
