Server Thoughts: Things I hear at work.

Graphic fro Server thoughts: Things I hear at work

Server humor is something that not everyone gets, but for those of you that have worked in a restaurant, you can relate to some of the things I hear at work.

The life of a server at a semi-busy restaurant is by no means glamorous. And can be stressful when it gets busy but can be a lot of fun.

One of the things that I like about where I work is my coworkers and our ability to joke around when it’s okay to.

Some of the things we have said to each other are hilarious, and others can leave you scratching your head in confusion if you are not used to being around us.

For that reason, new hires sometimes have an interesting first few days until they get the idea of how we interact with each other.

Now we don’t always act silly, but there are times when it is unavoidable.

Plus, I also never miss the chance to make a well-placed joke when tensions are high, which they sometimes are.

This is a list of some of the funnier things that I hear at work.

“How did that get in my hair?”-

This one is usually some sort of dressing or sauce that was leftover on a plate someone picked up and took to the dish room.

“How long in real-time, not cooks time?”

Their one minute is really like five. So if your server says it shouldn’t be much longer, it probably will be. We don’t know how long it will really be either.

“Hey, who touched my butt”

Now this one might seem odd, but often the area that we are in is small. So there are random hands reaching for various items at any given time, which leads to the inevitable butt grab.

“Who took my food”

This is an ever happening issue where I work. Most of the time the right food goes out to the right diners, but on occasion, someone will take food that was meant for another table.

“Wanna touch my jugs”

One person said as they held up two one-gallon jugs.

“You know spooning leads to forking”

As I hear someone ask another server for a spoon for a pasta dish.

Hey, you have a table….”

This is immediately followed by “Did you know you have a table” echoed several times by other employees until the person just glares at us as we all giggle like small children.

” I’m sure there is a cream for that”

Usually when someone complains about some small inconsequential thing that is annoying them.

” You dropped something”

After someone drops anything that bounces a few times and/or makes a lot of noise.

Final Thoughts

Now, these are not all of the things that I have heard in my years working. But they are some of the ones that I have found to be the funniest.

In some cases, it’s just the best way to easily annoy my fellow co-workers to the point that they just tell me to shut up and walk away from me.

I have found that being silly is a good way to keep from becoming overly stressed when it gets crazy at work. So I will keep being silly as long as it stays busy.
