Daily Habits for Self-Improvement

  • Get Enough Rest Each Day– This is the #1 thing you can do each night to skyrocket your self-improvement journey. Making sure that you are getting enough rest is crucial to taking good care of yourself. Most adults need 6 to 8 hours of sleep each night. But you also need to take rests throughout the day. Stopping for a few minutes and resting your body and mind. The reason for this is you will be of no use to anyone let alone yourself if you are super tired from doing all the things.
  • Drink enough water– Experts say that eight 8 oz glasses of water each day is enough to keep you hydrated. This translates into half a gallon (2 Liters) each day. The best way to do this is to keep a water bottle with you most of the day. This one is great and makes it easy to remember to drink enough water each day.
  • Exercise or Movement – Not all of us want to have a full-blown workout each day. But you still need to have some sort of exercise or at least movement every day. Just going for a walk every day is enough to keep your body moving. And you will see that it makes a huge difference in how you feel each day.
  • Journaling/Writing– Keeping a journal is a great way to track your self-improvement each day. And help you to get out your thoughts and feelings instead of letting them stew inside you for the night. Journaling at night helps to clear your mind of the things that happened during the day and lets you get to sleep with a clearer mind.
  • Meditation– I know you hear it from everyone. But meditation is one of the best ways to get in touch with yourself and clear your mind. Just 10 minutes a day is more than enough to get you started. Headspace is a great place to get started.

  • Read Every Day– Reading every day is a great way to exercise your mind and gets you away from all your gadgets for a bit each day. Instead of aimlessly scrolling social media, try reading a book before bed. You will find that it’s a great way to unwind instead.
  • Breathe Before You React– Before you react out of anger or stress to something. Take a few seconds to breathe. You will find it not just calms you but centers you too. It takes you out of the moment and gives you time to react in a productive way. I do this a lot when at work and it really helps. Especially when dealing with difficult people.
  • Learn Something New– Learning a new skill is a great way to improve yourself. It could be just about anything. Learning something new keeps your mind sharp and can also help you advance in life too.
  • Keep Up with Friends– Even the most introverted of us need to have friends they keep up with. Making time at least once a month to meet up and talk with a friend is a great way to keep yourself social and get out there. Friends can also encourage you in ways that you don’t even think of to keep going and bettering yourself.
  • Spend Time Outside Everyday– Getting outside for about an hour every day is one of the best things you can do. In today’s digital age we spend too much time on electronics (even if we don’t mean to). Spending time in nature helps to connect you with the world around you and gets you out of the house and away from all the distractions too.
  • Time with Family – This cannot be oversaid. Spending time with your family is crucial to your well-being. And not just your kids and SO either. Make sure to spend time with older relatives and extended family too. Even if your family is one that you made yourself (friends). You need to spend time with people who love and care about you. And that you care about too. It will make you feel so much better. Side note: If you have toxic family members you should avoid them because they will not help you at all.
  • Eat More Fruits and Veggies– Making sure you are eating well is a daily habit that you defiantly need to have. You will be surprised at how much better you feel after eating a little bit healthy for a few weeks.

Final Thoughts

There are literally hundreds of little habits you can pick up that will help with your personal development goals.

The most important thing to remember is that they need to fit you. You can follow the advice of anyone out there. But if the things they do or suggest are not right for you. Then they won’t work for you. The best thing to do is find a few things that resonate with you and start doing them. If you try something and you think “I’m just not feeling this” then go on to the next until you find what works best.
