Here are some of the best ways to get organized.

Ready to get organized? Let’s Go!

Write It Down

This is of course the #1 tip for getting organized. While we may think that we can remember everything. We really can’t. As we get older studies have shown that it does get harder to retain new information. So to keep from forgetting anything important – Write it Down.

I have found that keeping a planner nearby is the one thing that helped me to really get organized. I keep a list of everything that I need to do each day. Everything from content writing to what needs to be cleaned that day around the house. That way I don’t forget anything. This has seriously been a game-changer once I started to write it out in my planner.

Find a home for everything

Everything has a place. Having a designated place for everything makes it easy to keep the clutter down and keep things organized.

Use bins or baskets for different things. That way when you are looking for something you know right where to go.

This also helps keep the kid’s toys from overtaking the house. Invest in a toy organizer with bins for all of their different toys that can be grouped. That way when they have to clean up, it’s really easy for them to do.

Declutter on a regular basis

Over time we tend to acquire a lot of stuff that we really don’t need.

Old Toys, clothes, and electronics are all things that take up unnecessary space.

But by routinely going through it all you can keep the clutter down. Set a few times a year to go through everything and get rid of or donate what you no longer need or use.

I like to do this in the spring and fall to get ready for the change in seasons.

Do the dishes

Nothing is worse than having a messy sink.

But making sure the dishes get washed and put away helps motivate me to keep the rest of the kitchen organized and clean.

Do the dishes right away so that they don’t pile up and become an overwhelming pile of yuck.

Make a cleaning schedule

I’m a sucker for a good schedule. If it’s a set thing that I do each day or week it becomes easy to work it into my daily to-do lists.

Keep a schedule where the whole family can see it.

That way they know what needs to be cleaned each day (if they decide to help that is).

A weekly and monthly cleaning list is great so you always know what needs to be done.

Use an online planner

An online planner is another way to keep your to-do lists in order.

I use Trello right now and it helps keep me organized.

You can sync it to an app on your phone so you can keep track of all your lists even when you’re not home.

Keep a note pad with you

Notepads are a must. Keep one near you all the time so you can easily jot down small thoughts or lists for later.

Because we can’t always have our phones on, this helps keep track of quick ideas. And they are small and easy to carry.

Clean out the car

I don’t know about you but my kids are messy.

Every time they are in the car they leave behind a mess. Since they are getting older, I just tell them to take their trash out when they leave the car. Once it becomes a habit they will do it without having to be told.

Keeping a small bag for trash in the car helps too. You can throw any trash into it and just take the bag out when it’s full.

The other thing to do is clean out the glovebox and center console regularly. I tend to just throw things in there when I get in the car. So I make sure to go through them and clean them out.

Keep your purse/wallet cleared out

I don’t carry a purse anymore, but I often made sure to clean it out when I did. That way I didn’t lose anything important in the black hole that was my purse.

Another trick is to have a smaller one so that there is less room in there. Having a bigger bag means that there is more space for junk. So keep one that is smaller and only has room for important things like your wallet and phone.

Label EVERYTHING!

I love labels! There I said it. I feel so much better 😉.

But in all seriousness, I label just about everything so I know what is in each drawer or storage box.

This makes it so much easier to find stuff when I (or anyone) needs it. Keep a pack of labels nearby so you know right where they are when you need them.

Easy Ways to Get Organized

Keep a Family Calender

Let’s face it our families are BUSY. Between work, school, sports, and everything in between most of us are constantly on the go.

Make it easier for yourself by keeping a family calendar somewhere that everyone can see it. You can use it to keep track of everything that the family does.

This makes it so much easier to coordinate everyone’s schedule. You can also use it to keep track of chores that need to be done, family meals, and times.

That way every member of the family knows what’s going on any given day.

Sync All Devices

With all of the tech that we have in our hands every day it can get confusing.

But you can sync all of your personal devices to keep track of everything. If you have a google assistant in the home you can use your phone to set reminders and add them to your calendar easily.

It’s the same with your PC and phone too. If you have everything linked you can work on things from your phone and keep everything organized.

Pick Up Often

Just picking up around the house regularly can help keep you organized too.

Instead of having one day where you spend the day cleaning. Do a little bit each day. That way it won’t become overwhelming.

Get the Family to Help

Even the littlest family member can help keep things organized.

If you start your kids out early learning to put things back when they are done, it will help you keep everything more organized in the long run.

And it teaches them to be more responsible for their things. Which is something they will need later in life.

Final Thoughts on Ways To Get Orgainzed

If you are scatterbrained like me, it can be hard to get yourself organized. But by taking small steps and working toward it, it can be done in a short time.

The trick to keeping yourself and your house organized is by being consistent with each thing that you do.

Once it becomes part of your daily routine to put stuff back where it goes, it’s so much easier to keep it up.

What are some tricks or tips you use to stay organized?
